Sixty million athletes, or nobody at all

One app puts a community around you. The other deliberately puts no one there.

Freeletics has been doing this since 2013, and its App Store listing puts the community at sixty million athletes. Any comparison that opens by pretending we are the bigger idea deserves to be closed immediately. So here is what each app is actually for.

Is ftns.ai a Freeletics alternative?

Only if the community is the part you would rather not have.

The Freeletics Coach builds you a training journey — bodyweight work, calisthenics, running, gym sessions, or a mix — and adapts it week to week from the feedback you give after each session. Warm-ups, cooldowns, mobility and recovery are built in. It works with no equipment at all, which is why it travels better than almost anything else in the category. Around it sits a community where people post completed workouts, join challenges and invite friends.

ftns.ai will plan a session too — its coach builds one from your goal, your pace, your equipment and the exercises you have ruled out — but it does none of the load science underneath a real training programme, and it does not adapt a multi-week block around your feedback. If a coached training journey is what you are looking for, Freeletics does that and we do not.

And it deliberately does not do the community half either.

What does ftns.ai do instead of a community?

Nothing. That is the product decision.

ftns.ai has no social feed, no friends list, no leaderboards and no follower count. There is no screen anywhere in the app where your progress appears next to someone else's, because there is no such screen to build one into. This is not a privacy setting you have to go and find. It is an absence in the product.

Sharing exists as exactly one thing: you export a score card or a Future Self image yourself, to wherever you choose, when you feel like it. The app never posts on your behalf. It has no ability to.

We should be honest that this is a real trade-off. Social accountability is one of the best-evidenced retention mechanics in fitness, and Freeletics has built one of the strongest examples of it anywhere. If training alongside other people is what gets you out the door, an app with nobody in it is worse for you than one with millions.

We built the other one because of the people who quietly deleted a fitness app the week their streak became something other people could see. The longer argument is here.

What replaces the community as motivation?

Your twin.

ftns.ai turns what you actually did into a full-colour 3D character built to your own proportions. Not a mascot, not a pet — you. Workouts feed it, but so do sleep, steps, water, meals, weight, mood, alcohol and caffeine. All of it rolls into one number, your Life Score, and the Life Score is what drives how your twin looks. What a digital twin actually is.

Your twin updates weekly, not daily. That is deliberate. If one skipped session visibly changed your character, the model would be lying to you and you would stop believing it by week two. Bodies move on trends. So does your twin.

The bet is that a character which is recognisably you, looking flat after three quiet weeks, does the job a community feed does — without anyone else having to be in the room.

What ftns.ai is not

Stated plainly, because the category invites the assumption:

  • Not a training-optimisation engine. The coach plans sessions. It does not estimate your one-rep max, do plate maths, model fatigue or periodise a block. Apps built for that do it better, and this post says so out loud.
  • Not a health intelligence. The .ai is a domain. Your coach is a game feature, and it makes no medical claims and promises no results.
  • Not a medical or assessment product. ftns.ai is a game in the Health & Fitness category. It doesn't diagnose anything, doesn't give clinical advice, and doesn't tell you what any of your numbers mean about your health.
  • Not social. No social feed, no friends list, no leaderboards, no follower count. Sharing means you export a score card yourself, to wherever you like, when you feel like it. The app never posts on your behalf.

The thing no table row captures

Future Self. Your twin projected across six horizons and three timelines — Current Pace, On Plan and Coasting — rendered as a character, free and unlimited, never behind gems.

It is a game feature, not a forecast. It does not predict anything about your health, it guarantees nothing, and it does not tell you what will happen to your body. It shows you a version of your character built from the way you are currently playing. How the projections work.

So which one

  • Use Freeletics if you want structured training you can do anywhere with no equipment, you want the app to build and adapt the programme, and a community of other athletes is a reason to keep going rather than a reason to hide.
  • Use ftns.ai if you already know roughly what training you will do, you want the rest of your day to count for something, and you would rather nobody at all could see how it is going.
  • Use both if you want a programme from one and a private reason from the other. They do not overlap enough to conflict.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a fitness app with no community or social feed?

Yes. ftns.ai has no social feed, no friends list, no leaderboards and no follower count — not at launch and not later. Sharing means exporting a score card yourself, and the app never posts on your behalf.

Does ftns.ai build training programmes like Freeletics?

Not in the same way. The coach inside ftns.ai will build you a session from your goal, your pace, your equipment and the exercises you have excluded, but it does not adapt a multi-week programme from your feedback the way the Freeletics Coach does, and it does none of the load science underneath one.

Is Freeletics free?

Freeletics has a free tier containing a set of bodyweight workouts, a limited exercise library and community access. Full personalised training requires a Freeletics Coach subscription, and nutrition is a separate purchase. Free-tier contents differ between its iOS and Android listings, so check the one for your phone.

What does ftns.ai track?

Workouts, sleep, steps, water, meals, weight, mood, alcohol and caffeine. All of it feeds a single Life Score, which drives how your digital twin looks.

How often does the ftns.ai twin change?

Your twin's body recomputes weekly, on the trend, rather than reacting to individual sessions. Mood shifts in between, on a faster axis. The weekly cadence is deliberate — a character that moved faster than a real body would stop being believable.
